The Rochester Press-Radio Club is honoring Ralph Wilson Jr. and the legends of the Bills Super Bowl era Monday night at the Riverside Convention Center.
Beforehand, those legends - Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Darryl Talley, and Steve Tasker - spoke about a legend that couldn't make it, but is never far from their minds.
They said that Jim Kelly has in fact returned home from the hospital following cancer treatments, and that has buoyed their spirits.
"He wanted to get out of the hospital and he was chomping at the bit to get home and finally did that today. They were worried about his nutrition and his ability to get his nutrition in, and he jumped that hurdle. He wanted to come home, no question," said Tasker.
"All this really started, him getting a little bit better, is when he got back from New York months ago. I think that was one of the turning points when he felt a lot better, even though he was going through the radiation and chemotherapy, being home made him feel a lot better," said Thomas.
This is the 65th year of the Radio-Press Club's Day of Champions Dinner.
