ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK - Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes says he was with teammate Marcell Dareus when Dareus crashed his car in an alleged street racing incident last week.
"I was driving my car. I was on the street while he was on the street driving his vehicle as well," Hughes said following practice Wednesday.
That is the most confirmation Bills defensive lineman Hughes would give to his involvement in the incident. Hughes repeatedly responded to questions saying that it is a legal matter with Hamburg police, but that the facts are the facts. Facts, that Hughes and Dareus haven't talked about since last Friday's accident.
"He's doing fine and that's about it," Hughes said. "We spoke on different things, nothing involving that, though."
Dareus is charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and participating in illegal street racing. No charges have been filed against Hughes, who says he doe not need to change his driving habits at all.
"I mean I've always been one to abide by the law and to follow the guidelines, speed limits that they have set out there for us," Hughes said. "So will my approach change? No because I've always been one to abide by that."
