It's been almost five months since Russ Brandon sat in front of us and officially took over as the President of the Buffalo Bills organization. He displayed a leadership based on youthful energy, which hadn't been seen in some time. He said he has final say, but would not be the one to draft players.
And now, the first draft of the Russ Brandon era is officially in the books. The success of this one will hinge largely on their top selection, and whether Florida State product EJ Manuel develops into an elite-level franchise QB in the NFL. Brandon's legacy could hinge largely upon that. Buddy Nix too, as his time at GM seems limited. But Brandon was clear with the media that Nix was very much still in charge of this draft.
"That’s the way I was brought up in this business," Brandon said. "You let the football men and Buddy, the general manager, make those decisions and you provide every support element as you can as an organization to Buddy, the scouts, the coaches, to make and form decisions. We had a very thorough process this year as you know. We had a lot of private workouts and tried to have as much information available as could be, as we could provide to make good informed decisions."
