Canisius, Olean boys atop NYS hoops poll

  • Text size: + -

As the regular season winds down in high school hoops this week, several area boys teams are riding high in the latest New York State Sportswriters rankings.

Canisius is once again the class of Class A. It's a busy week for the top-ranked Crusaders, who host always-tough Bishop Timon-St. Jude on Thursday, followed by the rivarly showdown with 8th-ranked St. Joe's on Saturday at Koessler Center. Canisius won their first meeting last month.

In Class B, Olean once again reigns supreme in the poll. Since their lone loss to 5th-ranked Nichols, the Huskies have won nine in row as they appear primed for another long run in the post-season.

Silver Creek continues to impress the voters in Class C. The unbeaten Black Knights are number two in the state, while Maple Grove is right behind them, ranked 3rd.
