With a week to get ready for the start of the 48-game season, the Sabres taking Thursday off. Workouts resume Friday and Saturday with Philadelphia coming in Sunday to open things up.
The game also marks the Sabres debut of newly acquired Steve Ott. By now not a total stranger to his new teammates, and really not a stranger to one of them. Ott and Mike Weber are longtime friends who finally get to play together. They've considered each other brothers since Weber moved in with Ott's family as a teenager.
"It's exciting coming to the rink and playing with a great friend like him," Weber said. "Being able to see his parents come down a lot more than they would've, and things like that. It's just really exciting to have him here and be in the same dressing room and not have to play against him."
"We dreamed of this day, having the opportunity to play with each other, battle together and kind of go to war together," Ott said. "And now that it's finally kind of upon us now, it's been a lot of fun. We've been able to hang out other than the rink and then when we do get to the rink we see each other as well."
