With a 7-6 record, the St. Bonaventure men's basketball season hasn't started the way they envisioned. The Bonnies preparing for a fresh start with the Atlantic 10 season tipping-off Wednesday.

St. Bonaventure's Head Coach Mark Schmidt said he wanted a "challenging" non-conference schedule.

The Bonnies' got what they asked for, playing four teams that made last year's NCAA tournament; all of which resulted in losses, including the last three in a row.

"We've lost to three really good teams, teams that played really well. We have to get back to playing our style of ball. Being able to defend in the half court, being able to rebound better, and taking care of the ball. Those are the three aspects we will have to improve on to be successful in the Atlantic-10," said Schmidt.

St. Bonaventure looks to turn the page from its three-game skid. They'll have to do so in Atlantic 10 conference play. That is where the Bonnies made a name for themselves last year, going 10-6 before winning the Atlantic 10 tournament.

"Last year, we played GW the first game and we beat them. We felt like that kind of got the wheels rolling. You never want to start out 0 and one, so the first game is crucial no matter what," said Bonnies guard Matt Wright.

The Bonnies open conference play Wednesday when they travel to George Washington. They return to the Reilly Center Saturday to host conference newcomer Virginia Commonwealth. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
