Bills Red Zone Improvement a Must

  • Text size: + -

The Bills hanging on to their slim playoff hopes, but a golden opportunity to climb a little closer Sunday as they take on the Colts, one of the teams they'll likely have to track down for a berth in the post-season.

The Bills will certainly need to improve their production in the red zone.

They won last Thursday despite the offense's inability to score touchdowns when they got deep into Miami territory. Instead, they settled for four Rian Lindell field goals.

It's a problem that also bit the Bills a few weeks ago in a loss against the Texans.

"How did we respond after the Houston game?," quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. "I think we did a good job. Hopefully we respond well after this Miami game, but it is just something that the difference between three and seven. You do not have to be a mathematician or a rocket scientist to figure out when you get down there if you can convert those into touchdowns it is so big for your team. That is something that the consistency is what you always talk about. We need to be able to make those plays down there to get the points."

Mark Anderson and Aaron Williams have both been ruled out against the Colts. Corey McIntyre, Brad Smith and Spencer Johnson are all questionable.

The Bills defensive ends have shown improved play of late and Shawne Merriman has been a part of it. After being cut back in August, Merriman was brought back to add some depth.

He had a sack and two tackles against the Dolphins. Chan Gailey called it his best game as a Bill.

"For one, you can't lose your faith and positive attitude because I knew one day if I got another opportunity I would make good use out of it," Merriman said. "I have one now to come back and play along next to a lot of great guys and I know what they need me to do. The plays that I do have I go out and produce."

And YNN Sports will once again be on the road with the Bills this weekend. I'll be in Indianapolis with reports from Lucas Oil Stadium through post game on Sunday.
