BUFFALO, N.Y.-- Buffalo CarShare is celebrating its fifth year in the Queen City this year. The group hosted a picnic Sunday to celebrate the occasion and lay out plans for the future.
Buffalo CarShare allows members to rent cars by the hour or day. It plans to grow its fleet from 17 cars to 30 by the end of 2015. Services will expand to north Buffalo, the East Side, downtown businesses and the lower West Side. CarShare employees say they plan to accommodate all of Buffalo's drivers.
"We want to be able to get wheel-chair accessible vans, we want to get volunteers to drive around elderly and disabled people," said Jennifer White, Buffalo CarShare's communications director. "We want to help other cities start up char shares just like we did in Buffalo."
More than 1,200 people have used Buffalo CarShare vehicles to travel 700,000 miles since its inception.
