BUFFALO, N.Y.-- After 166 years of serving those who needed care at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, the Daughters of Charity are handing over the reigns to the administration and doctors.

A mass was held Sunday honoring their legacy in the city and their service at the hospital. Altogether, more than 850 Daughters of Charity have served at Sisters Hospital and in the Buffalo community.

The Sisters announced the move in October. The five Daughters of Charity who live on the fifth floor of Sisters Hospital have been packing up their home and will be moving to a new city. They said they will go where they are needed

"Our life is supposed to be serving people," said Sister Mary Grace Higgins, a Daughter of Charity. "And you get an ample reward of peace and joy in your life and comfort that people are being cared for."

Bishop Malone presided over the Mass.
