ANGOLA, N.Y. — Employees of Mickey Rats Beach Club in Angola had a bit of a surprise when they came to check on the building this week, as a 12-foot sinkhole had developed both outside and inside their building.
Owner Richie Alberts says the sinkhole has caused parts of the floor to collapse inside the building. They spent Monday placing that part of the building on jacks to prevent further damage.
Building and electrical inspectors still aren't sure what caused the collapse, and engineers are going to be sent out to survey the damage.
"We came just to check on things after the horrendous snowfall, we had approximately five feet... and we found a sinkhole," Alberts said.
Contractors estimate the damages at $50,000 - $70,000.
Alberts says this shouldn't affect their opening date of early April for the summer season.
