CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — A Chautauqua County man charged with menacing and harassment after Sheriff's deputies say he repeatedly fired a cannon toward his neighbor's house is speaking out through his attorney.
In a statement, the attorney for Brian Malta, 52, of Kiantone said: "Mr. Malta vigorously disputes the allegations against him and looks forward to the full truth of the matter coming out in the appropriate arena, which is a court of law."
Deputies say Malta fired a Civil War reenactment cannon eight days in a row in the direction of his neighbor's house. The cannon was not loaded with a cannon ball.
Deputies say while it is not illegal to own a cannon, they confiscated it because it was used illegally.
