With the 16th overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel.
The Buffalo Bills traded down and still got their man. E.J. Manuel is 6'5" and weighs 237 pounds, with a big arm, and mobile.
There were some knocks on his consistency, but the Bills liked what they saw, enough to make him the future of their franchise.
"We did a lot of work on these guys, and we felt like we knew them about as well as you could, from a distance, and this guy, to us, has got the upside to be whatever you wanted to be," said general manager Buddy Nix.
"One of the things that you see when he walks into the room is just his presence, and again, he's had great leadership ability where he's been, at Florida State amongst his teammates, and I think that one of the important things when he comes in here is earning the trust of our players," said head coach Doug Marrone.
Manuel went 25-6 as a starter and won four bowl games for the Seminoles. Manuel was the offensive MVP of this year's Senior Bowl.
The Bills traded the #8 pick to the St. Louis Rams. The Bills picked up the #16, the Rams' 2nd and 7th rounder (#46, #222), and swapped 3rd round picks with the Rams (from 71 to 78).
