ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Nearly 250 girls from six underachieving Buffalo Public School participated in the Western New York Girls in Sports at the Buffalo Bills Fieldhouse Saturday.
Around 80 volunteers from local colleges, sports clubs, and the Bills Strength and Conditioning Department taught and encouraged the girls in a variety of sports, from tennis and basketball, to soccer and double-dutch jump rope.
“Sweating, and running, and moving and being into sports is a great thing,” said U-B Womens Basetball Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack. “Not just to get your body in shape, but it can really help you ignite your mind, to believe you can become anything you want to become.
The program was founded by Mary Wilson to show young girls the positive impacts that sports can have on their lives.
