WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Brian Higgins, (D) 26th Congressional District, and Rep. Chris Collins, (R) 27th Congressional District, both said they expect a deal will be reached this week to avoid Friday's sequester deadline before cuts go into place. But, they said if not it would have devastating affects locally.

The $85-billion in cuts would hurt both the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport and the Niagara Falls International Airport, the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and more. Congressman Higgins said it will also hurt local businesses like Moog Inc., whose in the defense industry.

"What Congress needs to do is do something over the long-term, not another short-term fix to come back another day," Rep. Higgins said. "We need to get to this, get it done this week and do something permanent."

Meanwhile, Rep. Collins said the president has offered no real alternative to make any kind of spending cuts, cuts Collins said are needed to fix what's wrong with the country.

"We should not have $16-trillion of debt, $5 trillion of which was added just in the last 4 years with another trillion coming this year. These aren't just numbers, it's our kids futures and the American dream that is slipping away and as a parent and grandparent I share the frustration.

Both tell YNN they will be working hard this week with their colleagues in Washington to come up with an agreement, but right now there is no agreement, and Friday is fast approaching. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
