We're learning more about the case against a teenager charged with killing a five-year-old Niagara Falls girl last summer. YNN's Meg Rossman was in court and has the latest from the newsroom.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A hearing to review the way police in Niagara Falls obtained information in the investigation of the case continued late into Monday afternoon at the Niagara County Courthouse, with 17-year-old John Freeman Jr.'s own father taking the stand.

Monday's pre-trial hearing was conducted in order to determine how police obtained statements from John Freeman Jr. before he was charged with second degree murder in the death of Isabella Tennant last August.

The hearing resumed Monday afternoon with testimony from a Niagara Falls police detective who obtained a confession from Freeman the morning of August 27.

Detective Daniel Dobrasz says Freeman was acting normal and cooperative when he admitted to killing Isabella Tennant at her grandmother's 6th Street home.

Freeman's attorney is questioning the timing of his confession, as well as whether or not he was made aware that his father, John Freeman Sr., was at the police station at the time.

Freeman Sr. says he was made to wait eight hours at the station after repeated requests to speak to his son.

Prosecutors are questioning Freeman Sr.'s accounts of that night however, saying his statements to police about his whereabouts aren't in line with video surveillance and phone records from the 27th.

There is a gag order in the case, but all parties are expected reconvene in April.
