MAYVILLE, N.Y. — Chautauqua County gun owners have joined in on the fight against the NY SAFE Act and they are calling on the county legislature to help send a message to Albany.

The county's public safety committee approved a motion Wednesday calling for the repeal of the new gun law. The motion questions the lack of public discussion concerning the legislation.

Legislators say they've heard from many constituents who are opposed to the law.

"I think that it was unjust to pass it the way that they did in the dead of night without a proper vetting process or discussion, and I think that our legislators need to go on record stating opposition as well," said Jodi Aiken, a gun owner.

Cattaraugus and Niagara counties have passed similar repeals.

A local gun rally is scheduled for Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Frewsburg Fire Station #2. Representatives from Assemblyman Andy Goodell and Senator Cathy Young's office are expected to attend. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
