LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. — The Snow Bounders will continue their outdoor pursuits after trail abuse and low volunteer numbers threatened the club's future.

In Little Valley, members of the Cattaraugus County club discussed ways to keep riders off closed trails while voting to stay active next year.

They opted to install more gates and signage to close the trails when there is not enough snow.

Snowmobiling recklessly or when trails are closed causes thousands of dollars of damage to crops and golf courses, members said.

"Without landowners, we don't have a trail. You beat up the trails, you abuse the trails, you throw garbage out, you throttle it up across a hay field, across the golf course... we're going to lose them landowners. They need to realize that it's a privilege and it's about to be taken away," said Tom Hill, a landowner and trail boss.

Members also discussed better ways to communicate to the public when trails are open.
