The company that supplied propane to a family whose home was reduced to rubble after a deadly explosion in the Town of Wilson is now filing a countersuit against them based on evidence in the case. YNN’s Meg Rossman joins us from the newsroom with more.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An attorney for NOCO declined an interview out of respect for the Johnson family but did tell YNN they're not seeking any monetary compensation from the suit.

The 11-page countersuit filed earlier this month addresses claims the Johnson family made when they filed suit against the company in October. Both parties agree Jody Johnson unhooked NOCO's 500 gallon tank from his home on July 23, the night before the explosion, and replaced it with another tank on site after Judith Johnson called NOCO complaining of a strong gas odor.

That explosion severely injured Jody, Judith, and two of their children and killed their 14-year-old daughter Sarah. According to the Johnson's original suit, they claim representatives from the company were improperly trained and failed to warn Judith Johnson of a possible leak.

Now NOCO says the family is at fault after Jody improperly installed a secondary tank after refusing to allow NOCO to inspect their system. NOCO says that tank, filled at a nearby gas station was the only propane source to the house at the time of the explosion.

Jay's Place II, the gas station where Jody Johnson filled up that tank is also being named in the suit.

We've reached out to attorneys representing the Johnson family in their original and counter suits but so far are calls have not been returned.
