Western New York Congressman Brian Higgins says he's pleased to hear that a study on the feasibility of the Skyway in Buffalo is underway, and that it should be completed in the near future.
Long-term projects on the roadway are estimated to cost more than $100,000over the next 20 years, while many transportation experts say it would be much cheaper to demolish it and create alternative routes.
Higgins says it's something that needs to be done to continue the success that Buffalo's waterfront has seen lately.
"I just want to position Buffalo and Western New York to make a smart decision and the only way you can make smart decisions is by good choices," said Brian Higgins, (D) 26th Congressional District.
State Senator Tim Kennedy discussed the idea at a transportation budget hearing in Albany Thursday morning.
New York State DOT Commissioner Joan McDonald said Thursday that the study "won't collect dust" and action will be taken as quickly as possible depending on its findings.
