BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The newest part of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens officially blossomed Monday.

The Wegmans Family Garden lets children learn the importance of plants and healthy eating.

Wegmans donated $45,000 to turn a plant propagation house built in 1905 into the indoor family garden.

The garden will complement the seasonal use outdoor Children's Garden allowing visitors to get their hands dirty and learn while playing year-round.

"Utilizing their senses," said Theresa Jackson, the Wegmans Consumer Affairs Manager. "Kids here can truly experience - some for the first time - the idea that fruits, vegetables, and grains actually grow and are plants before they are food.

Every Saturday morning, the Botanical Gardens has children's programs focusing on how plants become food. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
