Canadian man caught after crossing border in stolen canoe

NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — A Canadian man from British Columbia has been arrested after Border Patrol agents say he illegally entered the United States.

Agents say the man stole a canoe from a home in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, early Thursday morning and paddled across the Niagara River with a shovel.

When he reached shore at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown, agents say he abandoned the canoe and was caught leaving the park. He planned to travel to New York City.
