HAMBURG, NY--Some would say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. But thousands of owners and handlers brought their furry friends to do just that during the last day of the 2013 Nickel City Cluster Dog Show Sunday.
More than six thousand dogs came with their human companions to the event at the Hamburg Fairgrounds, which was hosted by the American Kennel Club. The canines were judged on how well they match up to breed standards. Competitors said they take part in dog shows because of the love they have for their animals.
Breeze Culbertson, who has been competing for four years, said, "I love dogs. I have known all my dog breeds since I was six. And I just find it fun, I love to do it."
Show organizers said many of the owners and handlers will travel to other competitions nationwide in the coming weeks.
