The National Hockey League lockout is over and hockey fans will soon be able to watch the puck drop.

As YNN's Kate McGowan explains, die-hard Sabres fans say they've been anticipating this moment for months.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Sabres took to the ice for their first official practice at the First Niagara Center, following more than 100 days of lock out.

"To see the players out on the ice today, it's great," said Sabres Public Relations Director, Mike Gilbert. "We're happy to be back."

On Saturday, the National Hockey League and the Players Association signed a deal to end the four-month lockout, creating quite a buzz here in Western New York with both fans and players.

"Nice to finally have some hockey to watch. About time they quit bickering about money. Just about time," a Sabres fan exclaimed.

"Yeah, it was great to see all the guys and some new guys," expressed Sabres Center, Cory Hodgson. "To get back on the ice with them and I think we're all just so very excited."

The Sabres announced its regular season schedule this weekend, with 24 home games.

Team officials said because of the pent up enthusiasm from fans, ticket sales are expected to sell and sell fast.

"Individual ticket sales go on sale Tuesday. We anticipate selling a lot of tickets for the rest of the season at that point in time. I think it will be a really positive week and getting into Sunday, it will be a lot of fun," Gilbert explained.

The Sabres first home game of the season is Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers. The puck drops at 12:30 p.m.
