BUFFALO -- Dyngus Day 2012 was like any other in Buffalo, a huge party celebrating the end of Lent. That was until it made national headlines thanks to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. The Polish-American tradition made Cooper's "Rediculist" and uncontrollably laughed.
Shortly after, the Buffalo community stepped in and started a campaign to invite Cooper to this year's Dyngus Day, and it seemed to work.
Dyngus Day Buffalo Co-Founder Eddy Dobosiewicz said, "Right now we know it's on Anderson Cooper's calendar. We know that for a fact and I think he's actually looking forward to it."
Dobosiewicz said he's been promised, barring any breaking news, Anderson Cooper will attend the April 1st party, and that's no joke.
"Airborne Eddy", as many call him, said there will be plenty of pussy-willow and water if Anderson Cooper comes to Buffalo. He's even holding him to being the "Pussy-willow Prince."
"Airborne Eddy" said even though it was a shot at Buffalo, it's given the Queen City international attention.
"The initial reaction was one of upset and anger but if you really take a look at it, the benefits of turning this from a negative to a positive outweigh any adolescent, emotional backlash," said Dobosiewicz.
Dobosiewicz said he wants to make Dyngus Day special for Cooper, if he comes, and said he can't give anything away, but it will be the best one ever.
"It's a little premature but lets just say we're going to blow the roof off any previous Dyngus Days," Dobosiewicz said.
Let the countdown begin. Dyngus Day is less than three months away.
