NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Police superintendent received an emotional farewell Friday.

Chief John Chella retired after nine years as head of the department and 42 years in public service.

Chella says it was overwhelming when more than 60 colleagues lined up to offer well wishes as Chella left for the last time.

The chief says his greatest achievement was moving the department into a new building on Main Street.

"We were able to build this jewel that is indicative of the talent at the Niagara Falls Police Department. This right here I'm most proud of," he said.

Succeeding Chella is Detective Lieutenant Bryan DalPorto, a 15-year member of the force. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
