BUFFALO, N.Y. — For the second year, the Buffalo Fire Department, its union, and Urban Valet Dry Cleaners have partnered up to help "Extinguish the Cold."
The initiative collected about 750 new and gently used coats at fire stations and the dry cleaner cleaned them all.
Through their work in the community, the Fire Department's chaplain identified Buffalo churches to distribute the coats to needy people.
"We see first hand... we realize that they need warm weather gear," said Daniel Cunningham, president, Buffalo Professional Firefighters Union.
Last week, the dry cleaner's staff distributed about 250 coats to organizations that work with local refugees.
