The Batavia City School District has released a statement about the teen killed in a car crash in Stafford Saturday night.

Police identified the victim of the head-on crash as Collin Crane, 17, of Batavia.

The school district said in a statement,

"Tragedy has befallen one of our students, Collin Crane, and the Batavia City School District Board, staff, and students grieve with his family and our community. Monday, December 10 will be a difficult day for all of us as we come together and grapple with our collective loss. Police are still trying to determine why Crane veered out of his lane."

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office tells us the crash happened just before 6:30 in the Town of Stafford.

Deputies tell us Crane's car was headed westbound on Route 33 when it crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with a car driven by 49-year old Carmen Vega of LeRoy.

Crane was pronounced dead at the scene. Vega was taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester with a severe leg injury. She's in guarded condition.

Troopers continue to investigate why Crane's car crossed into oncoming traffic. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
