BUFFALO, N.Y. — The YMCA and Turkey Trot directors got a leg up on Thursday's big event as they hosted a dinner and awards ceremony for volunteers and long-time participants.

Hundreds of people took part in Tuesday's festivities, which included a ceremony that saw several former and current participants honored.

This year's Turkey Trot will feature around 14,000 runners. The race's executive director says that anyone driving downtown should avoid certain roads where the race will be run.

"It starts near Delaware and Hertel Avenue, and goes directly down Delaware Avenue all the way to Church Street and takes a left on Church to Franklin and a left on Franklin and right to the Convention Center doors," said Tom Donnelly, the Turkey Trot Executive Director.

Donnelly says participants and spectators should arrive no later than 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
