Friends of David Gerken say he used to enjoy being a part of the local hip hop scene. They say he went by the rap name Infamous D. His friends dedicated their show at a local bar Friday night as a way to honor him.

"He was a great guy. I'll never be able to replace the warmth I have in my heart for how cold it's got in the past 24 hours,” said Eddie Ballanca.

Those who knew the 26-year-old Gerken describe him as a positive guy who loved to spread a positive message.

"When you really get to know him, all he's doing is cracking jokes and making you laugh. All he would do is smile,” said Anthony Latona.

Eddie Bellanca and Anthony Latona considered Gerken one of their best friends. The men say they all rapped together as part of a local group called Belligerent Entertainment for the past few years.

"I'm in shock completely. I don't think I'm ever going to accept the fact that I'm never going to see my best friend again. Today was honestly the worst day of my life,” Bellanca said.

Friday night, the men met up at a local night club to dedicate their rap show to Gerken.

"We booked the show probably about a month ago, a month and a half ago. After everything happened today, we both decided it’s probably the best thing to do the show because he'd want us to do the show and he would have been here anyways, but he's not physically here, he's here in spirit,” said Bellanca.

Bellanca and Latona say it's the least they can do to honor and remember their best friend.

"It's a tragedy and the world loss a great person today and I'm going to be mourning a while over this,” said Bellanca.

Gerken's family declined to speak to us about the loss.

His friends say they are planning to give every penny they make from the show to Gerken's family to help with funeral costs.

David Gerken worked for Heritage Packaging in Victor. His employer sent a statement saying:

"Dave was a talented young man who was well liked by all of his co-workers and a valued staff member here at work. His positive attitude and friendly nature will be greatly missed by us all."
