EVANS, N.Y. — Fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire at Universal Industries in the town of Evans on Friday afternoon.
The company is a part of a group that offers services to those with developmental disabilities.
According to fire officials, when crews arrived to a large plume of black smoke pouring out of the building, where wood products are made.
Crews found fire in a dust venting system.
Staff and clients were evacuated without injures.
"It was very fortunate that the timing of this that it wasn't smoldering when they left, because on the weekend no one is here working in the woodshop," said Chief Nick Mecca of the North Evans Fire District.
Officials say the dust collection system has extensive damages.
