LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — The Village of Lakewood's board voted to extend a police services contract with the Town of Busti, but the $360,000 agreement comes with some strings attached.

Lakewood's mayor says the contract extension will keep the same level of service through 2013.

He adds that 37% of police calls come from the town and they are not paying their share of the $1.3 million dollar police department budget, but the stipulations say the town must continue negotiations immediately for a long term contract.

"Its just a matter of how do we work out the logistics of how do we get that the point where they are paying their fair share. Hopefully with this extension it will give us enough time to negotiate a long term agreement," said David Wordelman, mayor.

The Town of Busti is facing a 13 percent tax levy increase. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
