ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Mary Wilson, wife of Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, was recognized Saturday afternoon for her commitment to getting women and young girls involved in sports.
The president of United Way of Buffalo and Western New York presented Wilson with the President's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Community Leadership Award in a ceremony at the Bills fieldhouse.
Wilson was selected for the award for her work with the Western New York Girls in Sports program, which she founded in 2004.
Wilson's message to parents is to get your children into sports.
"Sports impact you in so many ways like nothing else can, playing with a team, the integrity, learning to lose, learning to win graciously" said Wilson.
The program is designed to encourage girls from ages 9 to 12 to participate in sports with the goal to empower, motivate, and to teach life skills.
